Friday night (8/17/07) our choir was to meet for practice. No one showed up except the director and I. We were not surprised. Hurricane Dean was roaring by one-hundred and twenty-five miles to the south of us. There is always an element of uncertainty to these storms' path so everyone stayed home and tied things down. As it was, the winds blew steady at twenty-five miles an hour with gusts around thirty miles per hour and rain. Across the island there was some flooding and a few trees down but overall the island was spared. We suffered no damage at all. I am reminded that we are to put our trust in things unseen and eternal not in things seen and temporal. Today is Sunday and it is a beautiful sunny day. What a great day to meet with Christians in Aguadilla.
We are revamping Sunday School, trying to breathe new life into a weakly (and weekly) attended program. It is unpopular in part because the islanders for the most part are not inclined to study... that includes their Scriptures. Faith is more a matter of the heart/feelings than a matter of the mind. Of course our faith must be a blending of both. So we are trying to "fix" Sunday School.
