January 13, 2008

Today I began to prepare the church for deacon elections scheduled for the end of January. We reviewed what the Bible says on the subject and I asked the church to pray about the matter over the next two weeks. These past two years the church's two deacons have done a marvelous job carrying out their responsibilities. Today during the message I shared with the church all that they were doing. The congregation gave them a well deserved long round of applause. The church would be blessed to have others like them these next two years.

This coming weekend our youth hold their annual youth retreat. It seems we have around 25 adults and youth signed up to go. For the first time ever I do not have to go. Our son Andy, the youth leader in our church, informed me he had everything under control and that I was not needed. I was surprised and pleased to be able to let go of this annual event as he assumes more and more leadership responsibilities.

Our twenty-five different ministries are functioning well as we get 2008 under way. I am excited about the prospects of the upcoming year as everyone does their part in the congregation. May the Lord add his blessing.
